What Did You Offer on Sunday?
Many of you were present Sunday for the "Sowing Our Seeds" ceremony for our "Celebration Garden." Members of Northaven processed out of the sanctuary and to the garden site and offered small symbols of personal meaning, that will now forever become a part of the labyrinth foundation.
After the ceremony was over, several members commented that it might be meaningful to hear what others shared and why. So, if you wish, please leave a "comment" below and describe what you left, so that others might be inspired by your story.
It's always powerful to hear each other's stories, and this is yet another way we can share with each other, as this process proceeds.
Question:
What "symbol" or item did you leave as a part of the Celebration Garden ceremony Sunday? Why did you choose it? What does it mean to you? Also, if you wish, share any other thoughts and feelings about the garden below as a "comment" to this blog entry.

I offered a printed copy of Northaven's historical timeline. I did so in order that Northaven's former pastors and layleaders would be forever remembered for the "foundation" they build that made the church what it is today.
ReplyDeleteI also included a prayer of thanks for those leaders/pastors, and a prayer of blessing for all those who will come after us.

The symbol I chose was a Guardian Angel which represented to me God's love and protection that is all around us when we need it most. "There are angels all around us" (including human ones) :-)

After thinking about what meaning walking the labyrinth would have for me, I decided to offer pictures of my husband, children and grandchildren as a symbol of the love we all share and the blessing they are to us.

Jeff Gidley asked me to offer a ring which had belonged to his deceased partner, Jim McNamara. Jim was baptized at NH, and he and Jeff attended NH as a couple when John Thornburg was pastor. Jim died in 1993. Jeff said that Jim was a wonderful man and knew the importance of living his life to honor Christ. NH was a large part of his journey.

I planted a "river rock" from the Bow River in Calgary, Canada, one of many we've used in our own garden here in Dallas. To me, this rock symbolizes the many places we've lived, the friends we made in those places, and the old and new friends we have here.

First, I honored Otto Wetzel on behalf of Jane, Liebe and Kramer-with love from me. It was quotes from Shakespeare that capture his live that were read by a Shakespearian actor and friend of Otto's at his service. I placed a flower on top.
ReplyDeleteNext, I placed Mary Clair's list of alumni and current members of the Children's Church.
I placed a flower for Ida Louise Noblin.
